So you are from Norway but you also speak English?
Yeah.. From around the third grade, we start learning English in school... but we don't speak English in Norway...it’s just kind of nice to know it... hehe, like if you dream of being a skate/snowboard photographer and travel the world, it can come in handy... hehe
In Norway how would I say "where's the skatepark?"
Thats in Norwegian you mean? haha! It would be written something like "Hvor er skateparken?"...and since you are reading this, try to pronounce this:,"hwor ar skeitparken". haha
How did you get into shooting photos?
Well... it was a mix.. I broke my ankle some years ago... and at the same time we had a two week project about photography at school...I sort of got three A's on the tasks we were given, and figured "wow... this is kinda cool"!So I started to borrow my dads digital compact camera and started shoot my friends...since i was already out more or less for the season, I figured it would be a great way to stay in the local skate scene!Anyway... this was around February of 2004 and by the end of the season, my photos had been picked up by a local skateshop, and they used it in an ad.Next the editor of the magazine, who was a skateboard photographer called me up and asked for more! Hehe In august that year, I got my own camera... took up a loan for about $5000, and started to follow my new dream! Becoming a skateboard photographer! :D
Do you like to shoot skate or snow photos?
I definitely enjoy skating the most!Mainly because it's warm, dry, I know all the tricks, and get closer and funky angles... heheBut on the other hand... I earned more money on just three trips to shoot snowboard photos than I have made in skateboarding all of last year! Haha But still... skating is closest to my heart :)
How is the skateboard scene in Norway?
Hm... hard to describe... It's not to big... its expensive to skate here... a complete skateboard costs about 300 dollars... And just a normal deck costs about 150 with the grip... so because of that, it’s hard for kids to get started... But still! We do have some really hardcore skaters! And compared to other countries, because the scene is small, we are pretty close! That makes every session nice!
What skaters in Norway kill it?
The first One that pops into my head is my old classmate Tom Erik Ryen. He is also spending a lot of time in the states, and my last trip there was with him.
Other than that we have some really gifted kids here!A Norwegian skateboard brand called "Rich" only has team riders under the age of 16, and they have almost all the good juniors in Norway on their team!
What snowboarders in Norway kill it?
Well... I only got into snowboard photography around March this year... so just got like the last two months of the season. Not being to much of a snowboarder myself... I only going like a couple of times a year, I don't know that many good riders...But in July, I'm going a week to a summer camp up on a Norwegian glacier to shoot some photos, so I'll know some by then! haha Oh... guess there are a couple of my friends... Preben Stene Larsen, Joacim Nyhaugen, Torstein Horgmo... yeah... they are good... got some photos of them on my site... hehe
Do you ever spend any time in America?
Yeah! haha!
Went there for vacation when I was 15 years old... visited some relatives...
But my most recent trip was in January-February. I spent a month in Cali and
Nevada! About 3 weeks of that time, I spend driving around with Tom Ryen!
Had the time of my life! -and I'm returning in about 6 months! or maybe I'll have to wait until the heat kicks inn...But then I'll spend 3 months there, so hope to hook up with someone to distribute my photos through ads or something! :D
Do you notice a difference in the skate scene in America and Norway?
Oh yeah! It's hard to put my finger on some specific differences... but it’s a big one! Guess in America it's more something everyone can do... here its like in the Dogtown days... you are a somewhat of a "cast away" if you skate... Still got that bad-boy image going... but then again... if skating was like football, it wouldn't be any fun anymore! hehe
Which do you prefer America or Norway?
America! Sort of have a life plan going! Hehe. The plan is to find someone in America, who is willing to give me food, and let me sleep on their couch, and I'll be their personal photographer-slave!So if anyone out there is willing to do that, go to my site, and I'll be on the first plane to leave Norway!
What is the most popular food in Norway?Mcdonalds?
ooooh no... Micky D’s is not that big of a deal here... hehehe... but I don’t really know... I've sort of become a health freak the last couple of months, so I eat my ecological shit and keep your obesity virus away! haha! You know, we don't have that much fast food stuff over here... hehe... McDirt and MurderKing is about the only stuff we have... heheBut if I would have to choose one thing i know everone likes... it would be pizza... og, and Kebab! You know what that is? hehe..
How are the girls in Norway?
oooh! Come and see for yourself! Everyone knows Scandinavian chicks are the best! They stay away from you junk food, most of them work out, they DON'T look like they have been on extreme makeover (you know, fake noses, teeth that they had to drop out of collage to pay for) , and DON'T carry around a lot of junk in the trunk... big buts are not welcome here! haha! If you go out of the country, and come back, the customs have like a tiny hole the chicks have to crawl trough... and it adjusts to their tits... so if their but is bigger than them, they get locked out of the country and get shipped to some deserted island, and can’t return until they have starved off their apple-bottoms!Girls here are naturally beautiful... and you DO know that the color blond has its origin in Scandinavia? Oh... and Scandinavia, if you don't know, that’s Norway, Sweden (yeah where all the porn stars and H&M comes from) and
What is your favorite thing about living in Norway?
We are rich... haha! or at least we feel that way when we go to another country! Haha And in the summer it REALLY is beautiful here! But girls are the best part! hehe
Have you been published in any American Magazines?
Unfortunately not... but hope to change that on my next trip! :D
What are the best Norwegian magazines to read?
Hm... If you read Norwegian, it would be PlayBoard, UltraSport, and Fjøl Bibelen (The Board Bible)
Anyone you want to give thanks or props to?
Man... have actually never been asked that question! haha
hm... My DAD! Has always helped me out in a tight spot, and been the best dad anyone could ask for! Want to thank Tom for showing me G-ville and a nice trip to the US.My best friend Even, and my best girlfriend, Martine, for just always being there when I needed them. And the magazines who publish my photos, and of course, the people in the photos!
