Two-Day Action Sports, Music and Lifestyle Event to Showcase Urban Big Air Ski and Snowboard Competition
San Francisco – ICER is thrilled to announce the next evolution of Esurance ICER AIR, an action sports, music and lifestyle event. ICER AIR gained notoriety in 2005 by laying down 16,000 cubic feet of snow on one of San Francisco’s steepest streets and hosting a big air ski and snowboard competition. A year later, Esurance ICER AIR became the first and only stadium event in the United States. Now in its 3rd year, Esurance ICER AIR will feature a 2-day multi-sport event on November 2-3, 2007. This year’s event will take place at renowned AT&T Park, a major San Francisco landmark and home to the San Francisco Giants.
“Esurance ICER AIR is a constantly-evolving event. Each year we try to raise the bar, to do something a bit bigger and a bit crazier than we have in the past,” said Glen Griffin, ICER founder and president. “Our main mission will always be to bring the mountains to the city, showcasing some of the most amazing athletes in the world in an urban setting.”
Esurance ICER AIR 2007 will feature a big air ski and snowboard competition, freestyle motocross, skate and BMX vert and street courses, wakeboarding, 60 exhibitors, 2 music stages, and a beer garden. Olympic and X Games athletes will share the spotlight with a surprise headliner band. And with a new branded look developed by the creative house GriffixThunkit, ICER AIR has firmly established itself as a world-class event in the action sports industry.
“Esurance ICER AIR has become the official kick-off to winter as the best athletes in the world and all of the top players in the industry converge in San Francisco for one of the coolest events ever,” stated event host and Olympic Gold Medalist Jonny Moseley.
A newly designed ski and snowboard jump will rise over 10 stories in the middle of the ball park, extending over 350 feet in length and covered with over 200 tons of snow. Spectators will be afforded views of Olympic medalists and X Games champions flying through the air against the backdrop of the spectacular San Francisco Bay. The jump will take four days and more than 14,000 cubic feet of snow to build.
“We are excited about the progress we have made in the industry, to showcase these amazing skiers and snowboarders on par with other action sports stars like Tony Hawk and Travis Pastrana,” said Moseley.
The big air competition is invitation-only and will feature a line-up of industry heavyweights, including last year’s champions, skier TJ Schiller and snowboarder Travis Rice, back to defend their titles. Fourteen skiers and 14 snowboarders will compete for more than $100,000 in cash and prizes. Among the many new features of Esurance ICER AIR 2007 is the introduction of a second venue, the Village. Located adjacent to AT&T Park on the opposite side of McCovey Cove, the Village will be home to freestyle motocross, a skate/bmx park, wakeboarding, 60 vendors and exhibitors, a giant ski sale, a music stage and beer garden.
Tickets:
Esurance ICER AIR 2007 promises to be a spectacular and unforgettable event with numerous surprises throughout the day. Friday tickets to the Village are $10, Saturday tickets for the stadium and the Village are $24, and Friday/Saturday combo tickets are $30 (include admission to both venues). Saturday and two-day tickets include a lift ticket to a major Lake Tahoe resort, a one-year subscription to Spin, Freeskier and TWSnowboarding magazines, as well as additional giveaways.
This year’s event is also distinguished by a strong green consciousness, reflected in everything from solar panels supplying power to the stadium to a host of green initiatives from ICER AIR’s sponsors. “While the thrills and the skills are a central part of ICER AIR’s allure, a love of nature and the outdoors is an integral part of what attracts people to our sports,” noted Griffin. “All of us welcome the green initiatives that are so much a part of this year’s Esurance ICER AIR weekend.”
Esurance ICER AIR sponsors include: Esurance, Crocs, Toyota, Playstation, Whistler Blackcomb, Head Skis, Freeskier, Transworld Snowboarding, Spin, SF Weekly, and Live 105. The charity partner for Esurance ICER AIR is R.O.C.K. (Real Options for City Kids).
The idea of skiing San Francisco became a reality two years ago. On September 29, 2005, 15,000 people watched history being made as ICER AIR took to Fillmore Street for the first-ever urban big air ski and snowboard competition. Realizing the potential for this type of event and always wanting to push the limits of creativity, ICER AIR founder Glen Griffin moved the jump to a larger venue, AT&T Park, and on November 4, 2006 turned Esurance ICER AIR into an action sports, music, and lifestyle experience. The one-day event featured bmx, skate, and wakeboard performances and competitions, with the spotlight on the first big air stadium ski and snowboard competition in the United States. The world’s most talented skiers and snowboarders launched themselves off a jump over 100 feet high and 350 long as 28,000 spectators looked on in awe. Continuing the mission of bringing the mountains to the city, Esurance ICER AIR 2007, to be held November 2-3, has evolved into a 2-day, multivenue series of events, action sports, concerts, and parties. ICER AIR intends to grow into other cities and will announce its future plans soon.

About Jonny Moseley
Jonny Moseley has amassed an impressive list of titles and medals as a skier, but it is his ability to bring a crowd to its feet that defines his career. In his quest to deliver the ultimate performance, Jonny has combined the discipline required of an Olympic athlete, the ability to thrill required of a X-Games athlete, and the creativity and imagination required of a free-skier. Jonny’s versatility has not only brought him success on the scoreboard, but has made him an innovative force in the skiing world. Jonny graduated from UC Berkeley in December of 2006. He continues to do his weekly radio show on Sirius Satellite Radio and TV hosting work. Last summer, Jonny was a judge on ABC’s Master of Champions. In 2005, he helped bring 200 tons of snow and 20 of the world’s top skiers and snowboarders to Fillmore St. in San Francisco for an urban big air competition. Last November, Jonny hosted Esurance ICER AIR in San Francisco’s AT&T Park, and he is looking forward to hosting the event again this November.
