2007 Tim Brauch Memorial Skate Jam Results
The 9th Annual Tim Brauch Contest took place this past weekend on September 29th and 30th at the Scotts Valley Skatepark and had the largest turnout to date. This contest which is in honor of Tim Brauch has continually grown throughout the years, so it should be no surprise to anyone that this contest was the best one to date. Sessions as well as judges and competitors alike agree that this year’s event went exceptionally well.
Saturday’s Street Contest, with more entries than ever, had 98 contestants competing in the Groms and Ams divisions. The Groms started the morning out strong, showing exceptional talent and enthusiasm for the sport of skating. Competitors as young as 3 to twelve years of age showed us the age does not determine skill or talent. These kids ripped up every piece of the course and came out on top.
Next up was the Ams division which continued to show the extraordinary talent of this year’s competitors. Familiar faces of previous winners such as Raven Tershey, Shaun Taggard and Curren Caples who placed first in last year’s Groms division, also popped up on this year’s radar. Heats for the Am contest had to be increased from 3 to 4 because of the huge turn out in this year’s division. The Spirit Award for the day went out to Jax Neel from Felton, 6 years old, for his phenomenal talent and terrific attitude toward the sport of skating.

Sunday’s Bowl Contest hosted by World Cup Skateboarding was another day of remarkable talent. Announcers Dave Duncan and Annie Sulivan did a great job commentating and keeping everyone informed on the great tricks that were going down in the bowl. First up was the women’s competition showcasing the talent of Holly Lyons, Haley and Julie Kinstrand, daughters of Dave Kindstrand who competed in the Masters, and Theresa Davis, 7 years old.
The Master’s competition was up next and of course was one of the most exciting parts of the day with such talent as Steve Caballero, Pat Black, Mike Rogers as well many more showing up to compete. With as many as three people in the bowl at once there was always something for the crowd to cheer for. Although all riders in this division had amazing energy and tricks it was Sessions own Steve Caballero that once again took 1st place.
Locals were next in the bowl competition with the top two skaters advancing to the Pros Heat, Tommy Wernere of Aptos and Nate Linford of Sunnyvale. The Pro Bowl competition got the attention of everyone who came out and showed what being pro is all about, big air and great tricks. During the Pro Finals local band Clay Wheels rocked out and showed all contestants and observers a great time.

Raffles took place throughout both days of the competition with such prizes as Skullcandy headphones, Dragon sunglasses, Schecter Electrical guitar, Bones Wheels, Skateworks decks, Plank Decks, Beer Run Decks, Steve Caballero complete, and many assorted prizes from Black Label, Tum Yeto, Powell, Consolidated, Ogio, and Dwindle.
