2008 International Volcom Wild In The Parks: France Results

After a long drive we arrived pretty late in Chelles, north of Paris, for the 15th stop of the Volcom Stone Wild In the Parks at the Cosanostra skatepark. They were just finishing the building of 5 big stairs but we preferred to cruise in the park and in the fun miniramp and leave it’s inauguration for the contest.

Saturday was surprisingly sunny and we started registration outside while a lot of kids were already getting busy in the skatepark, and especially hitting the new obstacle…

90 Contestants signed up and were ready to rip after the barbecue delivered its first grilled home made sausages, thanks to the skatepark staff and our IT shredder Jérome Prefot. There was 3 qualifying heats in the 15 and under division and here are some of the highlights: Andre Arnaud was on fire but couldn’t land his fs smith flip out, little Jeremy Diaz (12 years old) is killing the pool coping on the quarter pipe (smith grind, big no comply…), Tony Ribeiro has a fan club, Vincent Touzery is taking it easy but lands almost all his tricks with style, a guy who stretched one abdominal muscle in the morning and that spent all his time with the medics did his run plugging around (he couldn’t ollie), Roman Gonzalez cruising around with style and Vincent Lambrecht likes turning some cabalerials on the pyramid. The Final was full speed; it is crazy how these guys energy could last forever (maybe it’s because of the candies). Andre couldn’t skate as good as his first heat, Tony did a 360 flip over the table but didn’t make it in the top5, Roman took the 3nd place with some good skills (smithgrind on the curb, bigspin heelflip on the pyramid), Romain Voreaux was in stunt mode and was going crazy on the course throwing himself like a torpedo and occasionally landing some tricks that gave him the 2nd spot. Vincent was killing the course with a super smooth style and technical tricks (fs nosegrind on the small rail, cabalerial flip on the Pyramid, fs feeble on the middle rail…), he took the win with style, and it will be good to see him skate Skatepark Amsterdam in the Euro champs in 3 weeks!

Everyone went nuts in the 16 and over division and judges had to work twice as hard as before, feeble grinds are definitely as trendy as bs 360’s and hardflips, Oscar Candon was litteraly on fire all day and killed the whole course with hammers (Ollie fs nosebluntslide transfer on the curb, all kind of feebles, hurricane on the pool coping) but broke his feet during the final…good luck for the recovery…he won the Electric Hype of the day and finished at the 4th place.

Alex Hermann did some good tricks on the big rail (bs smith, kickflip bs lip) and ollied the whole quarter + extension thing but wasn’t as consistent in the finals than in the qualifying hits and didn’t make it to the top5. Jean Philippe Marie was on a good form all day and was doing all sorts of hardflip combinations (sw, nolllie etc…) and stylish crooked grinds, he landed good tricks everywhere and took the 5th place. Thomas Gerard took the 3rd place by landing sick lipslides on the big rail after gapping the table, bigspin heelflip on the pyramid and nice feeble grinds to fakie on the pool coping.... Remy Taveira skates with a lot of style, has a perfect bs 360, got 5-0 crooks on lock, feebles anything he wants and took the 2nd place of the contest, he could have won if Pierre Delacrôse from Villier wasn’t in “special” mode landing anything he tried as a big bs 360 flip, a pop shuvit late flip, a bs double flip over the pyramid, some bs lip and fs nosegrinds down the rail, and some full speed nosegrinds transfers on the poolcoping…he was exhausted after his heat but had a well deserved victory.

Contest ended with a best trick on the new obstacle (a big 5) and Heinrick Peccatus took the win and an extra spot to Amsterdam with a nollie fs heel and a nice hardflip, honorable mentions to Remy and Dimitry with their bs 360 (Dimitry skated with a sick style all day too), to Antoine Valentinelli with a hardflip (he’s got a nice fs salad too and loves Corona), and of course to Renau with a perfect double flip.

Prize ceremony went down and everyone grabbed some freebies and continued shred the park.

It was a long but good skateboarding day, thanks to everyone that showed up, to the Cosanostra skatepark crew for their work and smiles, to the judges David Tura from Soma skateboard mag, Julien and Camel, to David and Vincent for the pics, to our industry friends that helped out with prizes : JART, Electric and to the Closeup guy who gave us some miniboards. Good recovery to the ones that hurt themselves too, and thanks to the white cross.
