Volcom Stone’s Wild In The Parks OZ/NZ Championships 2007-2008 South Coast’s underground skaters take the tickets! Perfect sunny and mild autumn skate conditions blessed Waterloo Skate Park at the first annual Volcom Stone’s Wild In The Parks Australia/New Zealand Championships, Sydney, May 3rd, 2008!
With two tickets to Arizona, USA up for grabs in Junior and Open divisions the 36 competitor field from across the land and sea bought a crazy standard of amateur skating, blowing minds from the very beginning throwing hammers down & amping everyone around into a frenzy.
Junior division (15 & under) kicked off the day with micro-madness nothing short of amazing. These inspirationally freakish kids show the future of Australian skating has got some big tricks to come in future years. All finalists killed it across the course with Harry Mol, Jesse Schurkins and Lachlan Ross shredding hard, however the ever consistent skills of Raymond Maken of Gerroa stomping every trick showing determination and focus taking each heat and taking out the final to win the trip to Arizona, USA.The skating through all junior heats was mind-blowing. Look forward to seeing and hearing more about you all into the future!
Girls division saw Lu Ringuet, Aimee Harris and Adelaide’s Jennifer Oakes shred around the park with some impressive tricks including Jennifer’s pop-shuv-it-grab and stomping some big kickflips to take the championship title.
The open division turned the heat up pushing the crowds lungs into over drive as they screamed and yelled till the final trick was hammered down to the Waterloo concrete. With Chris Wood, Jake Smyth, Zac Davis and Reece Warren hitting everything around the park keeping the judges on their toes and freaking the crowd into hysteria. It was south coast’s underground madman Reece Warren’s silky smooth style and insane combination of tricks that took the ticket to the states Reece had this to say about the final ”I just wanted to come up and try not to embarrass myself, I’m pretty shocked, everyone skated so good, I had a lot of fun and now I get to go to America for free!” humble Reece will now represent Australia and New Zealand at the World WITP Championships in Arizona on the 18th of October and battle it out for the US$30,000 in cash prize money.
Volcom skate team were in amongst the action with signings and giveaways from Dustin Dollin, Chima Ferguson, Lewis Marnell, Kieran Reilly, Chris Wood, Shane Azar, Jack Fardell and Nick Stipanovic.
