2008 Sun Diego AmSlam: Encinitas YMCA Skatepark Results
3 stops down, 3 more to go. Sun Diego’s AmSlam is halfway wrapped after Sunday’s stop at the Encinitas Skatepark. Other people have been saying it since the first stop, and now I’m gonna jump on the bandwagon and say it too. The 13 and Under Division is seriously the gnarliest division to watch. These little kids have soo much talent its ridiculous. And they go for it! If you’ve been following the AmSlam the names Brenden Villanueva, Diego Najera, and Will Fyock are familiar to you. These guys consistently make the podium, but there’s a new little face on the scene. At only 8 years old, little Zach Saraceno is biting at their heels. Zach took 2nd place against the older dudes at Sunday’s contest.
In the 14-16 Division, Dolan Stearns again took 1st with 2nd and 3rd going to Nate Linford and Brendan Anderson. The points leaders in this division are Dolan, Cody Hale and Anthony Estrada. The podium in the 17 and Older Division was Josh Stoops, Conor Getzlaff and Michael Mancino, and the points leaders after 3 stops are Nick Tucker, Mark Barnett, and Chris Klich
And the Open Division was as always packed with some really good skating. We saw some new faces this time around including Plan B flow kid Taylor Smith, who had some amazing lines and could have walked away with 1st but for a few falls near the end of his runs. Instead Taylor grabbed 2nd place with 1st going to, hey I think I’ve heard of this kid before, Brendan Villanueva! Brendan hasn’t skated in the Open Division until now, but his 1st place guarantees him a spot in the finals, so he doesn’t need to worry about racking up points for his invite. 3rd place goes to another AmSlam veteran, Nick Tucker. The points leaders in the Open Division after 3 stops are Diego Najera, Nick Tucker, and Jake Hill.
Once again Sun Diego would like to thank all of the AmSlam sponsors, especially Monster Energy for stepping up and saving the day after our previous headliner abruptly pulled the plug on the series sponsorship. Thanks also to Lost Clothing and Transworld Skateboarding, and all the other companies that kicked down prizes to make the Sun Diego AmSlam a huge success.
Stop 4 is at the Escondido Sports Center on July 26th. Pre-Register at any Sun Diego location or email skate@sundiego.com to sign up.
