2008 Sun Diego AmSlam: Robb Field Ocean Beach Skatepark Results
The last qualifying Stop of the AmSlam Series took place Sunday at Robb Field Skatepark in Ocean Beach. We had a great turnout of both skaters and spectators, minus a few of the regulars that decided to skip this stop since their place in the Finals was secure. With Brendan Villanueva being one of those guys, there was room on the podium in the 13 and Under Division one new name. In his first AmSlam appearance Zane Timpson skated his way into 3rd, with Diego Najera in 2nd and O.B. local Micah Christina finishing 1st.
In the 14-16 Division, Points Leader Dolan Stearns placed 3rd, Anthony Estrada gets 2nd and another O.B. kid Alex the Park Shark Clark takes 1st. Another AmSlam newcomer, Brad Kinsella takes 3rd in the 17 and Older Division, while Josh Stoops and Connor Getzlaff trade places again, this time with Connor ending up in 2nd and Stoops taking 1st.
We had a jam packed Open Division at Stop 5 and the judges had a difficult time narrowing it down to the Top 10, nevermind the Top 3. In the end it was the little guys Micah Christina and Justin Dreyson who brought the most consistency and taking 2nd and 3rd respectively. But the day belonged to Josh Stoops. Josh wasn’t content winning the 17 and Older Division, he wanted the $500 prize from the Open Division too. He got it and he deserved it. Congrats Stoops!!
So that does it for the AmSlam Qualifying stops. The last Stop is the Finals on August 24th at the Clairemont Skatepark. The Points Leaders from the first 5 Stops are invited to the Finals where each Division will award bigger and better prizes, including a $2000 Purse for the Open Division!
