For the past nine years, SESSIONS has held the Tim Brauch Memorial Skateboarding Contest in memory of Tim Brauch who was one of the most respected skateboarders and beloved SESSIONS’ team riders of all time. His love for skateboarding, friends, and fun inspired everyone who met him. Tim’s untimely passing in 1999 at the age of 25, led SESSIONS to create the Tim Brauch Memorial Fund, a non-profit organization that donates 100% of the funds towards skateboard park development and youth scholarships.
One donation went to create the Tim Brauch Memorial Skateboard Park in Scotts Valley, CA that hosts this event annually with Sunday’s bowl contest being part of the World Cup of Skateboarding’s “Concrete Bowl Series.” Every year riders and pros from all over the West Coast come to this contest to have a great time and skate in Tim’s memory. Prizes include cash, SESSIONS clothing/accessories, assorted skateboard products and stickers that are donated to the contest, and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies. The past years 9th annual contest trophies were commemorative Tim Brauch decks done in gold with Tim’s signature artwork. The “Spirit of Tim” award is also given out to the rider with the best attitude and most determination.
The event is co-sponsored by Etnies, Vans, Dragon, Skullcandy, Red Bull, Dwindle, and Santa Cruz. The event includes band performances, DJs, raffles, food booths and many pro visitors each year including SESSIONS’ rider, Steve Caballero. Past raffle prizes include a Schecter electric guitar, complete Cab skateboard, decks , wheels, t-shirts, hats, and a whole lot more. All proceeds made from the event, including raffle money, go directly into the Tim Brauch Memorial Fund. Promotions for the event included a radio broadcast by KDON, radio interviews on KSCO, website links on SESSIONS homepage, Tim Brauch website and sponsor sites, and fliers distributed throughout Northern California skate shops.
The 10th annual Tim Brauch Memorial Contest will be held on September 27 and 28, 2008. Saturday’s street competition will be held at the Scott Valley Skate park and Sunday’s Bowl Contest hosted by the World Cup of Skateboarding will be held at the Lake Cunningham Regional Skate Park in San Jose, CA.
