CLEVELAND, Ohio. – After falling on his first two runs, Shaun White lived up to his reputation as a fierce competitor to earn a first place finish in the Skateboard Vert competition on Saturday, July 21 at the Right Guard Open, the second event on the 2007 AST Dew Tour at Cleveland’s North Coast Harbor.
White, 20, of Carlsbad, Calif. drew cheers from the capacity crowd with his flawless final run, which earned him a score of 90.25. Defending Dew Cup champion Bucky Lasek of Baltimore finished second with 89.00 points and Brazilian Bob Burnquist took third with a score of 87.00.
“I just dug as deep as I could,” White said. “This is unbelievable. I'm off to a great start. I can't wait to get a chance to keep this going."
With back-to-back wins in the first two events of the Tour, White plans to keep the momentum going into next month’s stop in Portland.
"This is exactly how I imagined it, but for it to actually happen is just unreal,” White said.
White currently leads the standing with 200 overall points, followed by Burnquist at 138 and Lasek at 130.
