Bucky Lasek wins AST Dew Tour halfpipe prelims just one month after knee surgery. Other skaters that killed it include Shaun White, Danny Mayer, Andy Macdonald and more. Read the story for details and exclusive photos.
Cleveland Ohio: Yesterdays rain put the AST Dew Tour Right Guard Open halfpipe prelims on hold until today. It is not such a bad thing that there was a weather delay because today had blue skies and moderate temperatures. This type of weather helps skaters feel comfortable and helps the joints in the body stay inflamed (non swollen). This really helped one skater today and his name is Bucky Lasek.
Bucky Lasek is one month off of knee surgery and came back for this event. Bucky is the man. It usually takes around six months to begin healing up from knee surgery, but Bucky made it out just fine. Fine enough to place first in the prelims. Bucky was not alone in the contest either. Shaun White was going huge and putting together really solid technical runs. Shaun's snowboard style and skate style really compliment one another. You can see why he kills it the way he does when you watch him skate and ride a halfpipe. Jake brown was going big too. He is a super good skater and was putting it down. Both Sandro Diaz and PLG went monster on this halfpipe. It must have been something about the cool lake Erie air that was blowing in that helped these guys go so big.
The crowd packed up the stands and stood below to watch this action take place. Everyone I heard was stoked on the event and will be there early tomorrow to watch the finals. The following skaters will be skating in the finals; (In order of contest placement) Bucky Lasek, Shaun White, Danny Mayer, Andy Macdonald, Bob Burnquist, Rune Glifberg, Pierre-Luc Gagnon, Mathias Ringstrom, Rob Lorifice and Lincoln Ueda.
Be sure to check back for the finals coverage. We are heading over to the street course finals right now.
Jake Brown is a really intense skater, you can see what I mean.
Shaun White with the good ol Adio shoe plug. Through the cell.
Andy Macdonald was very entertaining. His runs were action packed the entire time.
Sandro Diaz goes big and tweaks his grabs. No color, but color.
PLG layed out, tweaked and up there. Clouds were rolling in, but didn't faze this air.
Sandro again from above.
Shaun White blasting out of the pipe. He consistently goes the biggest.
