United Kingdom - The sun shone all weekend for the Jib-Vid Evolution as skaters from around the UK descended on Bristol for the short film contest of the future. The Jib-Vid Evolution is an event that is all about the skaters and their endeavours as teams produce a 90 secondmasterpiece in the 40 hours allotted to them. This year was a fantastic first time for the event with the teams’ hard work evident from the nerves and tension at the projection party.
The winning team couldn’t have taken a harder route to the podium if they tried. After a gruelling weekend of skating, filming and editing team ‘Kez’ were late handing in their film and so were automatically awarded a penalty deduction in the first round. However, their hard work paid off as they scraped through the first round in 5th place, and the rest as they say, is history. Matt ‘Boyo’ Williams is brilliant and pulls off the starring role, however he didn’t get to witness himself on the big screen, as he only arrived at the premier in time to collect his prizes with the rest of the team!
Second and third went to ‘One Blud’ and ‘Savoir Faire’ respectively whose films were full of technical skating and stunning filming appreciated by the full crowd that packed in to watch the premiers. Just missing out on the money but taking the ‘Most Stoked’ title were ‘G Toe’; a favourite with the crowd for their candid approach to the Jib-Vid concept. Having taken a place in the competition late on Friday night after a few beers at the opening of the new Fifty-Fifty shop on Park Street, Flynn Trottman admitted that it took them all morning on Saturday to find a camera, leaving only four hours to skate and the rest of the time to learn how to edit in order to put their footage together!
Fifth position went to ‘Skateboard Café’ with the rest of the teams close on their heels. Some that did not get to walk away with honours at the projection night won themselves some beer money during the ‘Best Trick’ competition on Sunday afternoon, held on the mini ramp that had been installed at Jib-Vid Evolution HQ, The Full Moon Pub, for the weekend.
The Jib-Vid Evolution has been in the mind of organiser, Graham MacVoy for many years but it was not until Oakley offered their support that the event could finally go into production. Huge thanks to Oakley, Xbox, Fifty Fifty, Mpora, The Full Moon, and all the teams for their support and efforts, which has made this year possible.
