Oregon Part 2 – South-Central – Hippie Town

West of Klamath Falls is the I-5 corridor, home to a lot of towns with park; Ashland, Medford, Talent, Grants Pass, Jacksonville and more. It is a cool area with a lot of others tuff to do too.

Everything around Klamath Falls is named Klamath. Klamath Lake is one of the largest freshwater lakes in the US, Klamath River runs through some wild country to the ocean near the Redwoods at, you guessed it, Klamath, CA. Here is the Klamath River, right after this photo I was in the liquor store and a guy with two chicks comes up to me and asks “do you know where the nudie hole is” I said no but with a 12 pack that sounds pretty god. He just corrected me and said “case!” as he walked away

Spring water from the same springs the pioneers drank out of

literally, the pioneers used to camp at the spring

60-70 miles west of Klamath Falls is Ashland Oregon which may be the hippie capitol of the world. Not too mention the Shakespeare festival and the Global Peace Village was going on, the town was pretty odiferous of patchouli and weed

Home of the Shakespeare festival

Downtown Ashland

More downtown, there is a good brew pub there and a lot of restaurants and a good skatepark I did not get photos of

Medford Oregon is up the highway from Ashland and seems to be much less hippie oriented than Ashland, maybe more Latino oriented. Either way, they got a pretty sick park next to the highway

Burnside style pillar

The mandatory bowl

Looking down the park, there were some street obstacles too. Medford was one of the better parks in the area and it was built by Airspeed

A little off the I-5 was Jacksonville, a cool old town with a fun park built into a hill side. Built in 3 phases by Airspeed and Grindline it has some interesting stuff

Steve Pirrello crails at Jacksonville. When I showed up he was like “great another person from California” but he ended being real nice and said I should go the Applegate swimming hole

Steve was rocking some sweet shorts. Unlike California people in Oregon do not seem to give a shit what you wear

Phase 3 of Jacksonville, see how it is built into the hillside

This spot was full on Naked Hippies, a cool spot to wash off the sweat

Definitely not Slayer but some fun sway into the air hippie music at the 2008 Peace Village festival. Ate a super healthy salad there but I was still hungry when I left so I went to the truck stop and got a jalapeño cheddar hot dog and cheddar wurt – so good
