SK8OLOGY - Turning skateboards into canvases for a worthy cause
In the tradition of pairing contrasts in order to create new mediums of expression, Long Beach, California based non-profit ISM: a community project presents, “SK8OLOGY: fine art on skateboards”, an exhibition that combines skateboard counter culture with the world of fine art.
On Saturday August 23, 2008, at 7 p.m. ISM: a community project, dedicated to benefiting the youth of the local and global community through artistic enrichment, will be hosting their annual fundraiser to support the organizations’ work in the Arts. A portion of the proceeds will also support Now That You Know, a non-profit organization that helps to provide ambitious girls from developing countries a secure environment for learning and growth.
The exhibition will showcase over 180 creative deck canvases donated by some of today’s most gifted artists, professional skateboarders and celebrities. Skateboarding legends Craig Stecyk, Nathan Pratt, Steve Caballero and Danny Gonzales have all contributed along with Jason Lee from My Name is Earl and Mike Shinoda of Linkin’ Park. Countless internationally recognized artists have also joined the cause including Audrey Kawasaki, Amy Sol, Chet Zar, Luke Chueh, Pearl C Hsiung, Sandow Birk, Tessar Lo, and Yoskay Yamamoto.

The arts fundraiser will begin with an online auction and opening exhibition at the ISM: gallery located in the Koo’s Art Center at 540 East Broadway in Long Beach, CA. The show will remain open for one week before it travels to the Action Sports Retailer (ASR) tradeshow in San Diego, CA where the online auction will conclude.
SK8OLOGY marks a first for artists, celebrities and skaters mixing mediums for the greater cause. Help make a difference by joining the movement.
