About three weeks ago,
while I was skating Clifstar Skatepark, in Dunkirk, N.Y. one of my
buddies from Lake Tahoe called me up and told me that I needed to get
myself out to Tahoe to be part of the Snow Park Tech mini ramp tour.
After about ten minutes of contemplating I decided that I would leave
rainy Western New York, for the blue skies and beautiful scenery of
Northern California. Enclosed are some of the scenes that I have seen,
and been a part of making since I arrived in Truckee
on June 24th. I would especially like to thank all the homies at
skateboard-revolution, and Suburban Blend for hooking everything up,
and my family and friends for dealing with my wanderlust. So here is my
first of many blogs for skateboardrev, during my several week hiatus
from the east coast. The following skate photo's were shot on Saturday
June 28th 2008 by Carrie Reiter.
The first week in Tahoe was a pretty big adjustment, getting used
to the time difference on the coasts has always been a pretty big
problem for me, and this time it was no exception, although it was
pretty nice to be up before the scorching summer sun of the Sierra
Nevada mountains really got cooking. For the majority of the first week
I was up at nine and skating Truckee Park
until noon, taking a break and resuming once the sun set. I managed to
get horrible sunburn on my face, and somewhat resembled Rudolph.
However battling the sun was just one issue that has a profound impact on skateboarding in Truckee,
the smoke from the over one-thousand forest fires currently blazing in
the state of California produce noxious amounts of smoke that form a
strangling haze over mountain communities such as Truckee
during current fire conditions. Regardless everytime we skated the park
in the dangerously smokey afternoons there were plenty of kids still
out skating. The park is sick, and I very highly recommend that anyone
passing through or near Truckee skate it
and have fun and hang out with the 5 or so am or pro snowboarders that
session it on a religious basis. Even though the park has amazing lines
be careful because scrubbing on the smooth ground will wake you up and
is known to make you bleed, after all I've always thought if you aren't
bleeding, you aren't skating.
Aside from skateboarding, there is a ton to do in Truckee,
the nightlife is alright, getting around is easy just call Eco-Taxi
(see the snowrev interview for contact info) and Reno is just a half
hour away. We road tripped down to Reno during rodeo madness and were
treated to a surprise Ming and Ping, and Living Legends concert, there
was booze flowing and bodies thumping all night, and all was well.
Check back soon to read see some more flicks, and read some more story telling. Thanks Steve.
