There is no better excuse to get out of the house, heat wave, traffic and hop in your car and drive to Mammoth Lakes, CA for the 1st annual VOLCOM MEADOWS PRO SKATEBOARD INVITATIONAL!! It all went down yesterday at 2 o’clock in the afternoon in the Jeff Anderson memorial VOLCOM BROTHERS SKATEPARK.  A couple hundred people drove, flew and walked from all around the see the likes of: Chad Bartie, Benji Galloway, Matt Mumford, Aaron Suski, Chris Senn, Jimmy Marucs and Kyle Berard just to name a few of the 20 plus riders.

The format was broken down in about six, 15 minute heats with 4 or 5 skaters in each heat.  During practice Volcom held it down proper with a FREE mean cuisine consisting of: grilled chicken, steak, sausages, mash potatoes, veggies, soda, dessert the whole works.  Just as the crowd finished stuffing there faces heat one started. Benji, Mumford, Cookiehead Jenkin and Stu Graham all started off strong.  But in a matter of three tricks Benji let everyknow he wasn’t messing around, Mumford seemed a little jet lagged (flew in from AUS) but still threw a few bangers, Cookiehead was destroying the brick wall extension and Stu has some nice flows.  Highlights of heat one: Cookiehead finger flip to tail stall brick extension, Benji- pretty much every trick he did. Mumford - b/s smith brick extension, egg plant.

The rest of the heats went off too, if I went into detail I would be here all day but heat one was the best for me. After all the heats were finished the judges picked 9 rides to the finals consisting of three heats:

Finals

Heat 1:

Mike Peterson
Taylor Bingaman
Chris Senn

Heat 2:

Benji Galloway
Chad Bartie
Steve Reeves

Benji's Plant

Heat 3:

Tim Johnson
Jimmy Marcus
Dennis Busenitz

All the guys did there business threw down here’s a short highlights from finals:

- Steve Reeves- f/s 360 Indy the hip, no comply tail slide revert to possible broken wrist still skated and fell on it a few more times.

- Chad Bartie - nollie disaster brick extension, gab front lip the pocket, crazy blunt stall combos, Tried the kickflip the hip a million times never landed it though.

-Benji Galloway- aired, grinded fronside and backside, stall and pretty much destroyed the pocket up above the love seat, Multiple eggplants to revert, highest mark in the capsule.

-Chris Senn- nice flows, trying to kick flip transition into wall (not sure if he pulled it or not) He took a super hard slam and called it.

- Jimmy Marcus- super good lines and destroyed the extension.

Everyone else in finals skated super hard and good. But over all there was a clear winner from the start.  All ten 10g’ went to Benji Galloway, 2nd Bartie with his white pants and 3Rd Jimmy Marcus.  Volcom, like usual put on a great contest, tons of free stuff, I think every single person there was wearing their stylin volcom shades, Volcom tee’s, stickers where everywhere, no one left empty handed. Great contest hope to see it again next year.
