Volcom Skate Team News - February 2008

We've been busy this last month with a few tradeshows across the nation, Tampa Am, some filming and photo missions, and a lot of good sessions at our private skatepark. Here's what the Volcom Skate Team has been up to lately:

Geoff Rowley, Rune Glifberg, Mark Appleyard, Luan De Oliveira and Louie Lopez have been filming heavily for Extremely Sorry, which is nearing its eleventh hour.

Another member of the Volcom team has made the leap into fatherhood. Dennis Busenitz and girlfriend Julia had a baby boy, Rune Jackson Busenitz. Congratulations!

The February issue of Slap magazine has an article featuring the Let's Live tour starting in Los Angeles and ending in New York. The article features Jake Duncombe, Dustin Dollin, Lewis Marnell, Chima Ferguson, Nick Dompierre and Grant Taylor. Check it out!

Volcom Spaniard Ivan Rivado is on a mini ramp tear, ripping at Volcom's Reptilian Ramp Rumble during Surf Expo and at the mini ramp contest at ISPO and winning both!

Directly after the Ramp Rumble, Rune Glifberg, Louie Lopez, Alex Perelson, Ivan Rivado and Alain Goikoetxea flew to the Cayman Islands for a week to skate the monstrous Black Pearl Skatepark.

Ryan Sheckler, Mark Appleyard, Nick Dompierre and Darrell Stanton are about to head down under to Syndey, Australia, where they will join Jake Duncombe, Lewis Marnell, Dustin Dollin and Chima Ferguson at Thrasher and Globe's Slaughter at the Opera contest on March 1st. Look for the guys skating spots around town leading up to the event.

Ryan Sheckler has scored the cover of Transworld's April 2008 Issue, which just came out. Inside there is a lengthy interview with him that has a lot of insight into Ryan's life, filming for the show, and how he deals with both the positives and negatives that come with being in the spotlight. To his fans, and anybody who skateboards in general, this is a great read. Go Shecks!

Nick Trapasso recently had an interview in the March issue of Skateboarder Magazine, among coverage from two recent trips with Toy Machine. That kid must be stacking footy for something!

Jake Duncombe and Filipe Ortiz are in California for the next month or so filming for the Blind video.

Dustin Dollin is back in the United States as of this week, everyone beware!

Taylor Smith and Filipe Ortiz both ranked in the top ten at this year's Tampa Am. Taylor got 9th place and Filipe got 10th.

Angel Ramirez is in San Clemente for a few weeks trying to get away from the all the snow in Colorado so he can do some filming.

Element has revamped their website featuring all new team pages for Darrell Stanton and Collin Provost. Darrell's first pro shoe also has a product spotlight. Check it out when you get the chance.

Danny Cerezini and Lewis Marnell have both made it to the pro ranks. Danny will be receiving a pro board from Blind and Lewis from Almost. Congrats Danny and Lewis!

Grant Taylor has been keeping busy at home in Atlanta, shooting photos and filming, and it shows in all the recent magazines.

Aaron Suski is at home in Arizona rehabbing from a shoulder surgery and enjoying fatherhood.

After having a solid part in Osiris's new video, "Feed The Need", Caswell Berry got a milestone interview in the February issue of The Skateboard Mag.

Brandon Westgate has been a traveling man as of late. Check the March issue of Transworld and February issue of Slap to see him in France, Atlanta, and Australia, to name a few. Keep it up!

Chima Ferguson has been at home in Sydney, Australia skating and chilling with friends.

Javier Sarmiento has been skating an indoor mini ramp he helped build in Spain lately. He is headed to Dubai any day now to film.

Nick Dompierre was seen at Tampa Am cheering on his little brother, who is becoming quite the ripper. Also, he had a shoe release party at his home shop Solstice in New Bedford, MA for his Pro model Adio shoe, coming out before you know it.

Volcom Skate Team News - December 2007

There's been a lot going on out there in our world and with Christmas right around the corner we'll get right into this so you can start enjoying some eggnog and the holiday festivities. First off, Aaron Suski has become quite the family man recently, celebrating the birth of his daughter, Sophia Annabella Suski. Congratulations Suski!

Geoff Rowley has returned home for the holidays and Mark Appleyard is traveling in Finland and Northern Europe.

Dustin Dollin, Chima Ferguson, Jake Duncombe, and Lewis Marnell are in prime weather for skating because it's summer in the land down under. They recently took part in a contest hosted by Red Bull called Sk8 of Origin. The contest consisted of three teams battling it out for six days in Melbourne, Australia completing challenges, skating spots, and doing bonus tricks to get the highest score. Besides that, they have all been skating hard and having as much fun as possible.

Rune Glifberg has been a traveling man as of lately, hitting up contests in China and Dubai to name a few. He got 2nd place at the Shanghai showdown and 2nd place at the X Games in Dubai getting him some extra cash for holidays. Rune will be at the Surf Expo in January attending Volcom's mini ramp contest. Javier Sarmiento has been comin' up with some crazy new tech tricks lately. Check his latest Volcom ad below and you'll get a glimpse of what we're talking about.

Nick Trapasso, Brandon Westgate, Caswell Berry and Angel Ramirez just got back from Hawaii this week. They took a trip down there to skate the local spots as well as attend a contest and one of Volcom's infamous Bowl Shop Battle's in Oahu. Caswell also came out with a solid part in the new Osiris video, "Feed The Need". It's a free video that will be at any skate shop that carries Osiris, so go grab yourself a copy.

Nick Dompierre has been touring across the states with Adio where they started off their road trip at the Texas Make-A-Wish benefit in Houston. Ryan Sheckler turns the big 18 next week and Oakley just had a huge party to celebrate at their compound. Tell him Happy Birthday if you see him around. Darrell Stanton and Louie Lopez were seen this past weekend at Globe's Outback Rail Jam. Globe/Dwindle hosted a contest on a rail replica built on the side of their warehouse where they gave out cash for tricks and had an authentic taco stand as well. Darrell and Louie both got handed some cash.

Dennis Busenitz recently went on a trip to China with the Adidas crew to rip up some new spots. Since then, he has been at home with his lady getting himself prepared for fatherhood, which they are expecting sometime in January. Collin Provost has been spotted skating locally around Huntington Beach shooting photos and shredding the streets with his friends. Danilo Cerezini has been on a rampage lately touring the globe, shooting photos, and filming for his part in the upcoming Blind video.

Grant Taylor and Lewis Marnell both came out with buttery parts in Nike's new video, "Nothing But The Truth". Luan De Oliveira and Filipe Ortiz have been steady crushin in Brazil, tearing up their home turf. Those two are on fire! They will both be skating at S.P.o.T.'s annual Tampa Am contest.

The deadline for Flip Skateboards new vid, "Extremely Sorry" is rapidly approaching and Geoff, Mark, Rune, Louie and Luan as well as the rest of the Flip squad have been hitting the spots hard trying to get there last minute bangers. Keep an eye out for it and have a happy holidays from your friends at Volcom.

Sit back, relax and catch up on what the boys have been up to lately and find out what is in store for the future.

Lets Live is the new Volcom skate flick dedicated to the memory of Shane Cross. Darrell Stanton has been hanging around town lately, skating all over the place. He had a 10-page interview in the newest Skateboard Mag along with a new video part in the Element movie and the soon coming Berry video. Nick Trapasso and young bucks Louie Lopez and Taylor Smith were also in the mix at the Digital Premiere.

Check out the newest issue of Thrasher Magazine (August 2007) that includes a free copy of Volcom's Volcomic Issue #1. The Volcomics project was born from our love of the underground comic movement and looked to capture its raw energy and low-fi means by creating a comic book that is authentic down to the paper stock and page count. The comic book was over two years on the making and features legendary skateboard artists Jim Phillips and VCJ as well as some of the biggest creative contributors to skateboarding today - Michael Sieben, Todd Bratrud, Travis Millard and even some art from Transworld Skateboarding's Street Skater of the Year: Mark Appleyard, who is in Europe right now with Geoff Rowley filming with Flip for their upcoming video release. While they are out there, they are doing a couple major demos so make sure you visit the Flip site for more info.

If you've been watching Fuel TV lately, you may have seen the new commercials of Dennis Busenitz. Dennis was over in Europe this summer, where he took the best trick at the Quiksilver Bowlriders in Sweden.

Aaron Suski just had the cover and a major interview in The Skateboard Mag as well. Suski is going to head out to the Phoenix stop of the Let's Live tour as well. Bring the mag and get it signed there. As well as having the Skateboard Mag article, the new Skateboarder has some amazing Gaberman photos of Suski and Brandon Westgate, go check it out.
