Volcom Team Update - November 2008

The Volcom skate department has been quite busy these days. Most of the team has been traveling the globe in search of new spots as well as working on their respective projects.

Last month we hosted two big annual events, our 2008 Wild in the Parks Championships that took place at the Rio Vista Skatepark in Peoria, AZ where the top ams from around the world battled it out for $30,000 in cash, followed by the Damn Am at Volcom the very next weekend. It was a whirlwind of events, with David Langston taking the big win at the WITP Championships and David Loy taking home top honors at the Damn Am. There was plenty of good action going down at both events.

Volcom's documentary video "All The Days Roll Into One" premiered on Fuel TV a few weeks ago from our month long adventures through the streets of New York City. Featured in this video is some heavy skating, as well as a behind-the-scenes look at the lives of Dennis Busenitz, Caswell Berry, Nick Dompierre, Darrell Stanton, Danny Cerezini, Chima Ferguson, Brandon Westgate and Filipe Ortiz. Check for the uncensored hard copy on sale in shops before you know it.

Ryan Sheckler just came out with some proper footy in the 15-minute long Plan B Promo video titled SuperFuture.

Geoff Rowley, Mark Appleyard, David Gonzalez, Rune Glifberg, Luan De Oliveira, and Louie Lopez are getting ready to hit the Southwest with Flip Skateboards on their latest Feast Tour. Look out for them attacking your local spots and doing signings at shops mid-November.

Caswell Berry finally made it home after his unplanned month long trip. What started as a 2 week trip to Southern California to hang with us and shoot photos, turned into quite the journey when he was enlisted as the special guest on Slaps "One In A Million" contest, where 5 contest finalists traveled down the West Coast starting in Seattle and ending at the GVR contest at the Etnies skatepark in Lake Forest, Ca. Look for the full article in in Slap's final print issue, coming out soon.

Darrell Stanton and Collin Provost have just embarked on a journey to China where they will shred amazing spots and experience a completely different culture.

Dustin Dollin is stateside right now hangin with the Baker squad in Hollywood, New York and anywhere else they decide to drop by. We just got this great 6 minute interview with Dustin and Chima Ferguson about their lives in Australia and what they do with their downtime.

Lewis Marnell has been keeping busy in Melbourne after a long trip to his second home of Sweden. He was recently nominated for an award at the Swedish Skateboard Awards, which will be in Stockholm, Sweden on December 13th. Wish him luck!

Javier Sarmiento has taken a little break from his hometown of Vitoria, Spain, and is now in New York and headed to California after. He has been shredding hard, peep his new Es ad for proof.

Aaron Suski and Brandon Westgate have been filming heavily for the next Zoo York full-length feature titled State Of Mind. Aaron has been back and forth from Tuscon, AZ to New York City to get his part done.

Nick Dompierre headed out to the annual Make A Wish benefit/skate jam with fellow Real heads in Houston, Texas this last week. Good times were had by all.

Jake Duncombe, Filipe Ortiz and Danny Cerezini are stateside getting some last minute bangers for there up and coming Blind video parts.

Angel Ramirez took what was supposed to be a short trip to California for ASR in September and decided to stay out here to skate, shoot photos, and enjoy the Southern California vibe. He finally went home right before Halloween, but he will be coming back out soon to set up shop in Long Beach.

Nick Trapasso has been busy with filming trips for Toy Machine and Cons. He is currently in Mexico working on more banging video wizardry to the delight of all.

Alex Perelson bought a new whip recently and is now driving himself to the spots instead of hitchin a ride.

Chima Ferguson is enjoying the coming summer as shown in his recent Day in the Life web clip on the Transworld Skateboarding website last week. He he is currently in Melbourne for 10 days filming for his Real video part with Su Young Choi.

David Gravette has some super good footage in Thrasher's new Brutality video, that was shown here at the private Volcom Skatepark during Damn Am. David has been working on finishing up some interview material, so keep your eyes peeled for some amazing photos coming to print soon.

Grant Taylor is on a killing spree lately. Check out the new Skateboarder Magazine hitting the shelves to see him ripping in Europe. He also has a great photo in the most recent Thrasher, the Independent Trucks Issue.

Make sure you check out an Authorized Volcom Stone Age dealer near you for the new Spring '08 Stone Age line. Volcom Stone Age is inspired by and designed for skateboarding... Volcom Stone Age products are only available at select locations. Look for the shops displaying the orange stencil authorized dealer logo. Volcom Team Update - June 2008

It has been an action packed last few months for the Volcom skate team. The guys have been on the road constantly, grinding, pushing and destroying everything in their path. The month of May was highly productive. It started with back-to-back trips to Brooklyn, New York and Costa Rica. As in the past years around this time, the team posted up in New York for the month, filming and shooting photos. Stay tuned for updates and photos in Transworld Skateboarding and Fuel TV from that mission. Nick Dompierre, Chima Ferguson, Danny Cerezini, Filipe Ortiz, Caswell Berry, Dennis Busenitz, Darrell Stanton, and Brandon Westgate were all involved and on fire during their visit.

Just after this, Mark Appleyard, Nick Trapasso and Jake Duncombe headed down to Costa Rica to meet David Gonzalez for his first Volcom tour. Despite heavy rain, the guys still got a lot done, blowing up the indoor parks at Arenas locations, and getting time in the streets between downpours.

For Nick Trapasso, this was his third consecutive month in a row on the road, moving from tour to tour, all with the ultimate goal of finishing his Transworld video part for "And Now", which premiered last week at the Transworld Awards. Nick, along with David Gravette both had super good parts, full of hammers and memorable lines.

The Skateboard Mag launched their Rollin' With Caswell Berry piece last week on their website. This is well worth taking the time to watch. Caswell is one of the funniest and best people to travel with or just hang out with in general. Take a glimpse into his life by watching these clips.

Mark Appleyard, Jake Duncombe, David Gonzalez, Luan de Oliveira and Louie Lopez are all currently traveling around southern California on Globe's Puzzled tour, stopping at skateparks and shops all over the region. Be on the lookout for the guys this week.

The European contest circuit, as well as the US Dew Tour is getting underway now. Ryan Sheckler, Danny Cerezini, Darrell Stanton, Alex Perelson and Rune Glifberg are all gearing up for this weekend's Dew Tour. Rune is on fire just coming off a win at the Bowlriders in Malmo and the Pro- Tec Pool Party here in Southern California. Just around the corner are Volcom's Mystic Cup in Prague, July 4-6th, as well as Amsterdamn AM in Amsterdam, July 18-20th. Book your travel now for two of skateboarding's funnest events.

There has been a whole lot of magazine coverage lately of the team. The new August issue of the Skateboard Mag has Nick Dompierre gracing the cover with a kickflip boardslide. Within the pages is a tour article on a recent Volcom trip to Australia. Nick Trapasso is on the August issue of Skateboarder, kickflipping a massive gap. Rune Glifberg has a monumental interview in the July issue of Thrasher, as well as an epic cover. David Gravette scored the cover of Transworld's AM issue. Congratulations guys, and keep up the good work.

In the home building projects department, both Grant Taylor and Nick Dompierre have been keeping busy. Nick with a mini ramp under construction and Grant Taylor with a recently finished bowl.

Stay tuned at Volcom.com
