PLG hold off Shaun White and Bucky to take 2008 X Games. I said Shaun before Bucky because Shaun was looking like the biggest threat in practice. When the comp stated some bails put him in 3rd. It was a weird comp because the X Games almost cancelled vert and just threw in the ramp from the Dew Tour; good but nothing special. The skaters however where on it all day. No one seemed bummed on the ramp and they all seemed stoked to be there, good vibes despite the heat and politics. The format was changed and that seemed to really help. Instead of three runs 1 minute like in the past which seemed to be painfully drawn out or 10 man ½ hour jams which were too hectic, they mixed the too formats. Five skaters would kind of jam, they went in order with a time limit of thirty seconds per run. The jams were only 15 minutes so the skaters kept it hot. The top three scores of the jam were added together to determine the winner. It seemed like a good formula. Two heats went today, then 5 went to the final. Everyone was hyped
Bucky Lasek flips to fakie in practice. Bucky was not really feeling it in practice. I told him not to worry, he always comes through, he was not to confident but still ended up on second
Danny Meyer heelflips in practice
does a slow rotating back 3 in practice, he was kinda ripping in practice but did not quite pull it together in the final heats
Ah yes I remember when Clairemont skatepark first opened in San Diego. There were heavy sessions; Neil Blender, Darren Navarette, Chris Miller and so on. There are still hot sessions and Alex was a little punk back in the day but now he is the king of the San Diego vert rat pack
Bob Burnquist slammed pretty hard
Bob Burnquist slammed pretty hard
Loriface is getting better and better despite the fact that he looks like kid rock
Shaun White was killing it in practice and looked for sure like he would win but blew a few runs and found himself having to play catch up but worked his way into the silver position. What the hell is this, a heelflip varial or something?
crane for tv or a crane for the man to watch us?
PLG had his day once the finals started, he was the clear leader
Rune also hurt himself but cruised around sans pads. Someone standing near me noted the fact that “Danny Way would keep going”
Fakie to fakie Indy 5 by Bucky. Bucky struggled in practice but kind of pulled it together in the competition. He still felt sketchy but said he worked the scoring system
For Saturday the X Games were SOLD OUT, kinda like me. Huge crowds all day
PLG was in high spirits and why not, 75k at the Maloof and a solid victory at the X Games
Andy Mac shredded too and spent some time on the podium but when the dust cleared he ended up in fourth. I like Andy, he almost always throws in an old school trick or two
Danny Meyer was throwing kickflip 540’s in his run
Shaun White – frontside body varial 540
Bob Burnquist is so fun to watch – switch boneless
Shaun was stoked to be in the X Games, he even seemed stoked to be in 3rd and not 1st, where is used to being on a snowboard
Bucky PLG and Shaun on the podium. They are all happy; PLG because he ruled the whole thing, Bucky because he snaked second despite not doing his best and Shaun to ripping on a skate and snow
Hey…whatevs
PLG will be partying in LA somewhere tonight, guaranteed
